Mauritius & South Africa Extravaganza - 19 DaysDay 01: London – Mauritius Today board your overnight flight to Mauritius [X] Breakfast [X] Lunch [X] Dinner Day 02: Arrive – Mauritius Upon arrival you will be transferred to the hotel. Today relax by the pool and enjoy the hotel facilities and surroundings for the rest of the day. [Y] Breakfast [X] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 03: Mauritius – City tour After a refreshing breakfast, depart to visit the enchanting and mostly undeveloped south coast. The drive leads up the High Plateau towards 'Grand Bassin', a sacred lake for the local Hindus who believe that its water originates from the Ganges. Grand Bassin is the most important area of worship of the Mauritian Hindus, every year during Maha Shivaratri, over 300,000 Hindus undertake the pilgrimage to the temples of the sacred lake. Later in the afternoon, visit the cliffs of 'Gris-Gris' which provide a stunning display of the wild nature of this rugged coast. The final highlight will be a walk through 'La Vanille Nature Reserve'. This lush tropical valley is home to a large number of regional flora and fauna including the giant tortoises and a breeding place for thousands of crocodiles. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 04: A kaleidoscope of Mauritius This morning start with a visit of the capital, Port Louis. From Fort Adelaide, the old citadel above the city, one has a magnificent view over the town and its harbour. You will also visit the busy city centre of Port Louis, the booming capital with its contrasting architecture. This city is a fascinating mix between old and new. Discover the colonial style "Government House', which overlooks the 'Place d'Armes", the heart of the city. The route then leads you around Moka and the Pieter Both mountain and descends down the long mountain road through the most scenic countryside towards Ville Bague and the plains of Pamplemousses. A visit of the magnificent Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens is the final highlight. It is from here since 1770, Pierre Poivre started to cultivate the area with spices and plants from all over the world. The Gardens are now world renowned for the variety as well as the rarity of its species. There are 500 plant and tree species in the gardens today including 80 varieties of palms. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel, where you have time ro relax and enjoy the hotel facilities. You drive past the residence of Nelson and Winnie Mandela. Later visit the famous Indian market. Today enjoy your hand at a bit of gambling or relax by the pool, enjoy the hotel facilities or take a walk around and discover this man made oasis. Later tonight after dinner enjoy the amazing, extravaganza show. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 08: Sun City - Ladysmith Today you leave Sun City and drive to Ladysmith. Located on the banks of the erratic Klip River, Ladysmith was founded by a group of ranchers in 1847. Today Ladysmith is an important road and rail junction where the main routes from Durban diverge towards the Orange Free State and Gauteng. The main activity in the area is horse breeding and ranching. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 09: Ladysmith – Durban After breakfast, drive to Durban, which is a major, holiday resort. It has many high rise hotels along the 'Golden Mile' beachfront. It has long been a favorite seaside escape destination for the landlocked white residents of Pretoria and Johannesburg. The wide Durban promenade is full of Zulu ladies selling hand-woven baskets and beautiful beadwork, while the men try to lure you into a rickshaw for a ride around town. With a large population of Indians who came here to work in the sugarcane fields, it would not be out of place to call Durban the 'Curry Capital of South Africa'. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 10: Durban Today you have a full day free to enjoy Durban, the many shopping areas or just sit back and relax in your hotel and enjoy the nice sunny climate. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 11: Durban – Port Elizabeth Today morning transfer to the airport to board your flight to Port Elizabeth. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your seaside hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day in this 'very English' seaside resort of South Africa. Port Elizabeth is known as 'The Friendly City', with its sandy beaches, pleasant parks and a thriving nightlife. Settlers Park includes 54 hectares of cultivated and natural gardens in the valley of the Baakens River, with the many native plants and flowers attracting many colourful birds. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 12: Port Elisabeth – Knynsa After breakfast you drive via the lush forests to Knysna. You will travel through Nature's Valley to Tsitsikamma Forest - home of the mighty yellowwood trees. Here you enjoy a tractor-drawn wagon ride through the forests with a picnic lunch before driving on to Knysna. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 13: Knynsa In the land of lakes and lagoons. Knysna lazes by a warm, shallow lagoon, which ebbs and flows with tides that gush through the narrow rocky entrance at the Heads. The road climbing to the top of the eastern Head yields superb views especially towards sunset. You can watch yachts surf through the narrow ocean channel to the safety of their moorings. Later you take a ride on the narrow gauge Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe train which hugs the coast and crosses lagoons. This is one of the most majestic and spectacular scenic steam train rides in the world. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 14: Knysna - Oudtshoorn This morning you drive past the lakes and the beaches of Wilderness and navigate the Outenique Pass. You visit a crocodile farm and go down the famous Cango Caves before checking into our hotel at Oudtshoorn. Oudtshoorn is the tourist capital of the Little Karoo and the ostrich capital of South Africa, with thousands of the beady-eyed birds all over the place. With big bodies but small brains, these long-legged monsters eat pebbles to aid digestion and are particularly attracted to the odd earring or glinting necklace from unsuspecting tourists. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 15: Oudtshoorn – Cape Agulhas Post breakfast, depart for a visit to an ostrich farm before continuing on to Swellendam. You drive through the semi-desert area of the little Karoo with its wealth of Anglo-Boer war history and its sheep farms. Long before white settlers established Swellendam as the third European town in South Africa, vast herds of game grazed on pastures lush with an abundance of water from the confluence of two major rivers. Later you arrive at the southern most tip of Africa – Cape Agulhas. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 16: Cape Agulhas – Cape town Today depart from Cape Agulgus and drive along the coastal road to the village of Hermanus, where sheltered bays are home to the Southern Right whale in calving season (July to November). [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 17: Cape Town – Cape of Good Hope – Cape Point This morning you depart for a full day Tour of the Cape Peninsula, driving along the scenic Chapmans Peak drive to The Cape Of Good Hope and Cape Point. You continue to the penguin breeding colony at Boulders Beach, Simonstown and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. [Y] Breakfast [Y] Lunch [Y] Dinner Day 18: Cape Town – Table Mountain This morning you take a cable car trip up Table Mountain. Rest of the day is free to shop or relax in the hotel and enjoy the beaches. Or take optional excursion to Kruger National Park or the Victoria falls. Just a walking distance from the hotel you can take a tour of the gigantic Victoria Falls- a 1708 meters wide making it the largest curtain of water in the world. Later stroll around the African art and craft village where you can purchase various African souvenirs. In late afternoon you will be transferred onto River Zambezi for a Sun Set cruise on the African Queen. Evening free at leisure. Arrive at O.R Tambo International and make your way to international departures for your flight back home! [P] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [x] Indian Dinner Extension: Kruger national park:Day 01: Johannesburg - Kruger National Park Early morning you depart on an overland transfer to the Kruger National Park. (Drive time from Johannesburg to Kruger is +/- 6.5 hours) The Kruger National Park is an enormous nature reserve stretching three hundred and fifty kilometres along the Mozambican border and being sixty kilometres wide on average. The savannah of South Africa and the green paradise where hundreds of Impala lambs are born; staple diet of all the predators. Arrive at the lodge and check in. In the late afternoon you depart on a Game Drive in an open 4X4 game vehicle. [P] Breakfast [P] Lunch [P] Dinner Day 02: Kruger National Park Early morning (06:00) you go out for a game drive before returning back to the hotel for breakfast. Rest of the morning is free at leisure. In the late afternoon you go for your second game drive in search for the 'Big Five' - Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino- the flagship of Africa and South Africa's game reserves.
