Kerala Experience - 11 DaysDay 1: UK - Cochin You will check in at London Airport for your overnight flight to Cochin. [x] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] In flight Dinner Day 2: Cochin Arrive at Cochin International Airport and you'll be greeted by our local representative who will transfer you to the Hotel. In the afternoon proceed for city tour of Cochin including the Dutch Palace at Mattancherry, the Jewish Synagogue, St. Francis Church which is the oldest European church in India, the Santa Cruz Basilica originally built in 1557 by the Portuguese, Chinese fishing nets which are believed to have been brought by Chinese traders. Finally, the Willingdon Island, named after Lord Willingdon, is the headquarters of the Southern Naval Command of India. [x] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] Indian Dinner Day 3: Cochin - Munnar (130kms) Today after breakfast depart to Munnar by road. Munnar is surrounded by lush green-carpeted tea and coffee plantations and is a picturesque hill station situated in the eastern part of Kerala. Later in the afternoon you visit the Tata Tea Museum - which houses an interesting array of relics and artifacts of the past. [y] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] Indian Dinner Day 4: Munnar After breakfast, you visit the Eravikulam National park in Rajamalai and home to the largest population of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr (wild goats). Afternoon you go toTop Station which is perched on a ridge and has an interesting site-the ruins of the old ropeway station that linked the foothills to the tea estates. Along the way, you see the Mattupetty Dam, the Kundale Lake and the Echo point. [y] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] Indian Dinner Day 5: Munnar - Thekkady- Periyar (120km) This morning after breakfast, you will drive to Thekkady as you view breathtaking spectacle of rolling tea and cardamom plantations and savour the rich fragrance of cinnamon and cloves. Thekkady is situated 2800 ft above sea level. Visit Periyar which is South India's most popular wildlife sanctuary. [y] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] Indian Dinner Day 6: Thekkaddy - Kumarakom (130km) Drive to Kumarakom, the heart of the famous backwaters of Kerala. After lunch, spend the afternoon just watching the sun go down from the middle of the Lake Vembanad or explore the area on foot to a local village set amidst paddy fields. [y] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] Indian Dinner Day 7: Kumarakom - Alleppey (house boat) An early morning visit can be made to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. After breakfast, proceed to Alleppey. Embark on an exciting 21-hour houseboat cruise at 12.30 pm. Board the traditional houseboat and start the long and meandering ride through the unique backwaters of Kerala in a thatched roof houseboat. Spend a night in the houseboat where you can catch your own fish from the backwaters and can ask the chef to cook it. [y] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] Indian Dinner Day 8: Alleppey - Kovalam (175 kms) Today morning disembark from the houseboat at Alleppey and transfer to Kovalam. Upon arrival, check into the hotel near the beach. The Day is free to spend at leisure on the beach. [y] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] Indian Dinner Day 9: Kovalam - Kanyakumari - Kovalam (150km) Today enjoy a full day trip to Kanyakumari, famous for its brilliant sunsets and sunrises. It is India's ‘land's' end at the confluence of the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. Visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial: in memory of Swami Vivekananda, the Indian philosopher who meditated and transformed into a spiritual leader. Kanyakumari is the only place in India where one can watch the sun set and moon rise simultaneously on a full moon evening. Return in the evening to Kovalam [y] Breakfast [x] Indian Lunch [y] Indian Dinner Day 10: Kovalam - Trivandrum (20km) Morning board your coach for an interesting drive to Trivandrum. Afternoon, sightseeing tour of Trivandrum visiting the ancient temple of Sri Padmanabhaswamy, Napier Museum which was built in 1880 and shows a harmonious blending of Kerala, Mughal, Chinese and Italian architectural styles and Sri Chitra Art Gallery which has a good collection of Tanjore, Mughal, and Rajput schools of art.
